Lyrics

Prologue: Nineveh’s Burning
(prologue singer)

Destroying all, they pour through the gate
Within the walls they crawl to their fate
The city is razed, they cry out and quake
Oh, Nineveh’s burning in a fiery lake

Eyelids move gently, she’s playing dead
A toy in her hand, a wound in her head
Birds of smoke weave the air black with dread
“Oh, Mother, too hot here,” she softly said

Near her old bones found down by the gate
They’re brushing off stones, debating the date
The years upturned in the air thick with spades
Say Nineveh’s burning, it never fades

And down and down more, though memory-cracked,
The clay made a voice that was burned intact
“I speak to you, to your sorrow and tears
This voice moving toward you for thousands of years”
